Who we are
There are many pets at the Animal Services Center who need loving homes. The Center always has a variety of cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies and the staff is ready and willing to assist you in your selection. Adoption fees includes rabies vaccination, spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations and boarding. For animals under 4 months of age, who are too young to be spayed or neutered, a $100 deposit is required. This deposit will be refunded when the animal is spayed/neutered and has received a rabies vaccination. For more information see the Henderson County Animal Services website.

Lost your dog?
Unfortunately, pets can lose their way from home. Some pets are found and kept safe by kind strangers. Other pets are taken to local shelters. Animal Services maintains a list of all reported lost and found pets and makes every reasonable effort to locate owners.

If you have lost your pet, it is best to visit the shelter. It is sometimes difficult to identify your pet over the phone. Stray animals are kept at the shelter for a minimum of 3 days before offered for adoption or if necessary, euthanized.

Lost and stray animals brought in to the shelter are featured here but also contact the shelter if you have lost your pet. If your pet has been missing for several days check the Pets available for Adoption.

Find the right dog for you
When looking for that new family member please remember to really think about the things you and your family want and need in a pet that fits the family lifestyle. Get to know your breeds! Some breeds require more space, exercise and circumstances than others. Even if you are going to adopt a mixed breed, look into what it's primary breed needs in a home, environment and exercise. Your new family member needs to be wanted by everyone in the family and included in your daily lives to be truly happy. Click here for more information on how to find the right dog.

No Squeeky Toys Please
Toys that make a noise when you squeeze them can encourage some dogs to be aggressive towards young children because they squeek too. The device that makes the noise is usually small and can be harmful if swallowed. Some toys of this type contain a small battery which is poisonous if the dog eats it. The best toys are tuggers, tennis balls and hard chew toys that cannot be ripped apart.

Dog Tethering and Shelter
When confinement prohibited: No animal may intentionally be confined in a building, enclosure, car, boat, vehicle or vessel of any kind when to do so would expose the animal to heat or cold harmful to its health.

Standards for chaining: No animal may be chained outdoors unattended without a chain/cable of suitable length designed and placed to prevent choking or strangulation, with the area free of obstacles and humanely clean so that the animal may have access to food, water, and shelter.
